Postnatal classes are set up to help new mothers adjust to motherhood.
These classes take place up to 6 months after your baby is born, however usually in the first 3 or 4 months.
The class gives you an opportunity to discuss the effects a baby is having on your life, to ask any questions, such as
The classes are an ideal way of meeting other mothers, giving an opportunity to make new friends, and to discuss, bounce of ideas, or solutions to problems.
There are a number of free postnatal classes set up by the NHS which take place in a hospital or Health Centre, and is usually run by Midwifes or Health Visitors.
You can also attend private postnatal classes, often held in a community setting, or held at someone’s house. The groups are often quite small, focusing on friendship and support, normally run by teachers who have been trained by the organisation offering the classes, and therefore not necessarily a health professional. An example of this would be the National Childbirth Trust (NCT)
